The maritime drone that was detected in Lefkada a few days ago is Ukrainian, the Minister of National Defence, Nikos Dendias, announced on Tuesday in a statement as he arrived at the EU Defence Ministers’ meeting in Brussels.
As Mr. Dendias said, “I will inform my colleagues — with the participation via video call of the Ukrainian Defence Minister — about the data regarding the drone we ‘fished out’ in Greece; it is Ukrainian.”
“The presence of this maritime drone affects the freedom and safety of navigation,” the Defence Minister added.
“It is an extremely serious issue,” Nikos Dendias concluded in his statement.
The issue of the maritime drone with explosives found in Lefkada was also addressed on Monday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Giorgos Gerapetritis, during the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.
Mr. Gerapetritis referred to “a particularly serious development,” announcing that “once the investigation is completed and the necessary technical characteristics are derived, there will be a response from the Greek government with the appropriate diplomatic démarches,” sending clear messages about the limits of tolerance of Greek authorities toward such incidents.
