Greece acquires its first beer museum

Athineo Museum, Athens’ first beer museum opened its doors to the public at the former Athinaiki Zythopoiia Brewery at 102 Kifissos Avenue.

Visitors to the museum can get an insight to the history and traditions of beer-making in Greece as well as have hands-on experience in brewing beer through interactive seminars and a host of other events.

A production unit for new beers includes an exhibition space where antique beer-making equipment is on display whereas an educational center offering interactive seminars with its own model micro-brewery where original recipes of unpasteurized beer can be made and tasted.

Objects from the three production uinits of the Athinaiki Zythopoiia brewery are on display and there’s a permanent collection of original ceramic beer mugs through history.

Admission to the museum is free on every Saturday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. in June before closing down for summer and reopening in September 2015.
