The Ministries of Education and Religions and Justice have jointly tabled legislation to combat the increasing phenomenon of parents and guardians keeping students away from public school citing pandemics or other reasons.
The provision stipulates that anyone who has custody or physical care of a minor and fails to register with regards to their compulsory schooling (up to high school) is punishable by up to two years in prison and a fine.
