Katrougalos urges citizens to protest against social security system

“The things they demand protesting are the same things for which I am negotiating with the Institutions” he stated

In an interview with Sunday edition of Kathimerini newspaper Labour Minister Giorgos Katrougalos claims that he is political flexible to proceed to changes that do not involve issues of principle.

To journalist’s comment that Greek citizens’ reaction to the new social security law is to protest he states: “They should. The things they demand protesting are the same things for which I am negotiating with the Institutions. Redistribution, higher pensions…”.

However, he admits that the new social security system leads to pension cuts for new pensioners, especially for those with over 1,200 euros income.

He also insists that main pensions will not be reduced even after 2018, while he estimates that at least 153 MPs will support the draft law on social security system in the Parliament stating that he is willing to proceed with the required changes so as to achieve it.
