An earthquake measuring 5 on the Richter scale has struck the province of Konya in central Turkey, the Disaster Management Authority (AFAD) of the neighbouring country has announced.

According to seismologists, the epicentre of the earthquake, recorded shortly after 6 pm, was at a depth of 7.2 kilometres, with the epicentre being located in the Selçuklu region.

In turn, seismologists at the Kandilli Observatory estimated the magnitude at 5.1 Richter. Unsurprisingly, residents of Konya were alarmed and took to the streets, however, according to initial reports, there is no serious damage or loss of life.
