The wolf (actually a coyote) of… Brooklyn’s nights

The coyotes’ howls ring out in the wee morning hours

Residents of a neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York were alarmed when they suddenly heard wolf howls in the middle of the night.

It was proven to be so, these are the well-known canids native to North America, the coyotes.

According to naturalists, the coyotes, some turkeys, hawks and other wild animals seem to have found safe haven amongst the concrete jungle, in New York’s large parks.

New York Police, in Riverside Park in the Upper West Side had managed to capture a wild coyote, which was having a casual stroll around a basketball court. Two weeks later, in Stuyvesant Town in the East Side, another coyote was caught.

The three Bronx parks are the home of a large family of coyotes. There is a solitary coyote inhabiting Queens. At night, these wild carnivores’ howls ring amongst the glass and concrete buildings of the Big Apple.
