US Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew reportedly told Greek PM Alexis Tsipras that the “US supports the success of Greece’s talks with its European partners for an agreed exit from crisis program and the importance that this development has to Europe’s financial stability”.
Furthermore, Lew expressed Washington’s satisfaction with the technical-financial ongoing consultations in Brussels.
On his part, according to the same sources, Tsipras repeated the need for a program that will end austerity.
It is worth mentioning that the White House assistant adviser on national security, Caroline Atkinson, also also spoke of a compromise so that Greece remains in the Eurozone, but at the same time she called on the country to present a reliable reform program.
Speaking at the Chatham House institute, she added that “it is important that creditors take into account the fact that in Greece there was a very significant drop in income, real wages, production as well as a great increase of unemployment.”
