Greek Armed forces to get Harpoon anti-ship missiles – F16 Block 50 to 52 upgrade

The relevant parliamentary committee voted on 12 weapons programmes

The Greek parliamentary committee on weapons and arms approved the 12 armaments programmes which include the maintenance of C-130 aircraft and the acquisition of Harpoon anti-ship missiles.
The majority of the Armament Programs and Contracts Committee of the Parliament gave the green light for the 12 armament programmes concerning all the Armed Forces branches.

The programmes include the upgrade of the F16 Block 50 to 52, the maintenance of three C130s, and most importantly the acquisition of 50 Harpoon anti-ship missiles. Until recently, the US had refused to release these missiles to Greece.

In total, the members of the parliamentary committee, after the relevant suggestion of the political and military leadership of the Ministry of National Defence, gave the “green light” to a total of 12 armament programmes. The 7 programmes concern the General Staff of the Hellenic Air Force and in addition to the upgrade of the F-16s, they provide for the acquisition of 40 RGM missiles, other attack missiles, etc.

For the General Staff of the Navy, 3 programmes are activated for the supply of battle batteries, spare parts for rapid patrol guided missiles, etc.
