Fire broke out today around 11.45am in a factory courtyard in Neoktista Aspropyrgos. As known by the fire brigade, the fire broke out in an outdoor area of a factory with chemicals and fertilizers on Agios Ioannis Stephanis Street in Neoktista Aspropyrgos, Attica.
According to initial information from the Fire Department, a tank with nitric acid located in the courtyard of the factory is burning and for this reason a special protocol has been implemented. As known by the fire brigade, all employees have been removed from the site of the factory and so far there is no danger of expansion.
To extinguish the fire, 45 firefighters with 13 vehicles, the special chemical team of the 1st EMAK and two helicopters were mobilized and did not have to operate. Water trucks also provided assistance.
As the Fire Brigade said in a statement, during the extinguishing three firefighters had respiratory problems and were evacuated by ambulances of the EKAB to the University General Hospital “Attikon”.
It is noted that a message was issued via 112 in order for those in the area to close doors and windows. In particular, the message reads: “Fire in progress at a factory in the Neoktista Aspropyrgos area. Smoke in the wider area. Close doors and windows. Follow the instructions of the authorities.”
Car traffic diversions are being carried out in the area on Panagia Faneromeni Street from Republic Street and Panagia Prusiotissa Street from St. John Stephen Street.
