With the aim of strengthening pre-school education structures, the Region of Attica has completed and delivered a new, modern three-storey nursery in Heliopolis. The project, which was fully funded by the Region, was inaugurated yesterday afternoon by the Regional Governor of Attica Nikos Chardalias at a special ceremony in the presence of local authorities and local residents.
The new nursery, located at the junction of Peace Avenue and Aristogitonos streets, has a total area of 1,003.8 square meters and features a basement and a roof, among other things. Its capacity amounts to 50 infants and 20 toddlers, thus covering important needs of the region.
The project is included in the Executable Projects Program of the Region of Attica for the financial year 2024, with a cost of 1,806,000 euros. Based on the contract, the Region proceeded to fully fund the project as committed, while the operation and maintenance will be undertaken by the Municipality of Ilioupolis.
As Nikos Chardalias, Prefect of Attica, points out:
“Investing in the new generation is a priority for us. Today’s inauguration of the new daycare center here in Ilioupolis is just one part of our holistic plan for the construction, repair and renovation of a total of 18 daycare centers and nurseries throughout the basin, with a total budget of 21,704,000 euros. These are structures that we, the Regional Authority, are funding in order to meet the needs of thousands of families.
Our goal is for every child in Attica to have access to quality preschool education structures. To grow up in a caring, safe and loving environment. We are committed to the continuous creation of suitable conditions so that children can develop their personality with safety and dignity.”
The 18 construction, repair and renovation projects of daycare centers and nurseries, which are fully funded by the Region of Attica, cover the needs of infants and toddlers in all eight Regional Units of the basin.
For his part, Mayor of Ilioupolis Stathis Psyrropoulos said during the inauguration of the nursery: “We through this construction, with the undivided help of the Region, which financed the project and was by our side at all stages until the implementation of the project, we wanted to ensure a holistic approach to the station. That’s why its lower windows are in line with the ground, so that the children inside can get in touch with the earth. This is a building that shapes a whole world in the heart of our city. From the very beginning it is oriented to ensure a better quality of life for children.”
