Crowds flocked to the beaches along Athens’ southern coastline from early Sunday morning, with temperatures gradually climbing toward 29–30°C.
Athenians and hundreds of tourists took advantage of the sunshine and warm weather, donning swimsuits, grabbing towels and mats, and heading for the southern beaches. In many organized beach areas, long queues formed. By 1:30 p.m., temperatures in the southern suburbs had already surpassed 25°C and were still rising. On Monday, the mercury is expected to reach 29°C.
According to the National Observatory, other parts of the country also experienced temperatures above 30°C today. The highest was recorded in Karditsa at 31.3°C, followed by Farsala (30.9°C), Aiges Gythiou (30.6°C), Agioi Theodoroi in Corinthia (30.6°C), Lefkochori in Fthiotida (30.3°C), Vamvakou in Farsala (30°C), Riza in Corinthia (29.8°C), and Stylida (29.8°C).

For Monday, May 5, 2025, the National Observatory forecasts sunshine with scattered clouds, increasing in the west and gradually spreading to other regions, bringing localized rain or isolated thunderstorms—initially in the Ionian Islands, Epirus, and Western Central Greece, and later in Thessaly, Western Macedonia, and the mountainous areas of Central Greece. Conditions in the west are expected to improve quickly, with rainfall ending by midday.
Temperatures will range from:
- 11 to 27°C in Northern Greece (10 to 24°C in Western Macedonia),
- 14 to 29°C in Central and Southern Greece,
- 13 to 25°C in Western Greece,
- 12 to 23°C in the Cyclades,
- 13 to 29°C in Crete,
- 12 to 26°C in the Eastern Aegean Islands,
- 15 to 23°C in the Dodecanese.
Winds will be variable and light in the North and Central Aegean, and moderate (4–5 Beaufort) from the west in the South Aegean. In the Ionian Sea, winds will generally blow from the south at light intensity, temporarily reaching 4 Beaufort in the northern part. In the Corinthian Gulf, they will blow from the west at moderate strength (4–5 Beaufort).
Athens:
Mostly sunny with occasional clouds. Temperatures will range from 17 to 29°C, but will be 2–3 degrees lower in northern and coastal areas. Winds will be light and variable, with brief northwesterly breezes reaching up to 4 Beaufort in the Saronic Gulf during morning and evening hours.
Thessaloniki:
Mostly sunny with occasional cloud cover. Temperatures will range from 16 to 26°C. Winds in the Thermaic Gulf will be light and variable.
