Eurobasket: Sengun’s provocative post with Kemal after the qualification against Greece and the comment “Did the sea breeze bother you?”

The posts of the Turkish national team star have sparked reactions after their victory against our national team

Newsroom September 13 10:17

The Turkish national team qualified last night for the Eurobasket final for the first time in 24 years, defeating the Greek national team on a night when nothing went right for the “blue and white.” Back in 2001, at the Eurobasket they hosted, the Turks had eliminated Germany in the semifinal and then lost in the final to Serbia.

Ergin Ataman’s star-studded team showed its superiority throughout the game, making Greece’s elimination seem inevitable from the start. This is a success the Turks had been chasing for decades, while they had not managed something similar outside their country for more than 60 years. Therefore, it was expected that they would celebrate excessively, something that was evident during last night’s match.

However, some posts by the Turkish national team’s big star, Alperen Sengun, caused reactions as they contained nationalist and aggressive overtones.

First, the Houston Rockets player posted an AI-generated picture showing Kemal on a chair with all the players of Turkey’s basketball team standing behind him.

Shortly afterward, he posted a series of photos from the game against Greece and wrote: “Did the sea breeze bother you?” — something interpreted as a reference to the Asia Minor Catastrophe.
