The Thessaloniki Metro will close for a second time, this time in February, as stated by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Nikos Tachiaos in an interview with Radio Thessaloniki. This will follow the suspension of operations starting November 10 for one month, due to necessary testing ahead of the network’s extension toward Kalamaria.

According to the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, the second temporary shutdown of the central line will take place in February, and it is estimated that it will last about a month.

Mr. Tachiaos also announced upcoming changes to the ticketing system, such as the abolition of the current 70-minute validity period. He explained that the original purpose of the ticket was to allow passengers to combine bus and Metro travel — “Now there is no such reason,” he said.
