The first hospital in Greece to use virtual reality masks on children for vaccinations, blood draws and minor surgeries has become for several weeks now the Aghia Sophia Children’s Hospital
As explained about the new “Vaccinero” system, Anastasios Michas”reduces stress, provides psychological support, helps manage pain and makes procedures smoother for everyone.
The system is already being implemented in TEPs, blood drawings, bandage changes, dental procedures and minor surgeries with Mr Michas conveying that “the initial feedback from children and parents has been excellent.”
“I see diamonds, fairies and trees,” said Sylvia, who demonstrated to ERT’s camera the capabilities of the VR system, while laughingly admitting that she wants to take the mask home.
For his part, the young patient’s caregiver commented that the child, who was very afraid of tests, “reacts much better with this program. Aghia Sophia Children’s Hospital is pioneering again and should be an example for all hospitals in the country.”
