North winds up to 5 Beaufort, the temperature up to 18 degrees and locally 19 degrees in southern Crete and Dodecanese - The EMY forecast for the weekend

Newsroom March 11 09:51

Partly Cloudy Skies and Local Showers Expected Across Greece

Partly cloudy weather is expected across Greece today, with brief showers likely in Crete. From around midday, light showers may also affect parts of the central and southern mainland, as well as the islands of the southeastern Aegean. Visibility is expected to be reduced in several mainland areas during the morning and evening hours.

Temperatures will vary across the country. In Western Macedonia, they will range from -2 to 14°C, while in the rest of Macedonia and Thrace temperatures will range from -2 to 16–17°C. In Epirus, temperatures will reach 17–18°C after a low of around 1°C, while Thessaly will see temperatures between 1 and 15°C. In Central Greece (Sterea) temperatures will range from 2 to 15–17°C, and in Evia from 1 to 15–16°C. The Peloponnese will experience temperatures between 4 and 17°C, while the Ionian Islands will see temperatures from 6 to 16–17°C. In the North and Northeast Aegean islands, temperatures will range from 3 to 17°C. Elsewhere in the Aegean, temperatures will reach 16–18°C after lows of around 8°C. In Crete and the Dodecanese, temperatures will range from 9 to 17–18°C.

Winds in the Ionian Sea will be light and variable. In the Aegean Sea, winds will blow mainly from the northeast, while southern areas will experience east-northeasterly winds with intensities of 2 to 4 Beaufort.

In Attica, periods of cloudiness are expected, occasionally becoming thicker. Winds will be northwesterly at 2 to 4 Beaufort, gradually weakening from midday onward. Temperatures in the region will range between 5 and 16–17°C.

Thessaloniki is expected to enjoy mostly sunny conditions, with light and variable winds. Temperatures in the city will range from 3 to 16°C.

Outlook for the Coming Days

On Thursday, March 12, generally clear weather is forecast across the country, with a few local clouds mainly over mountainous areas of the mainland and Crete until the afternoon. Morning visibility may be locally limited, particularly across the mainland and in parts of the Ionian Sea. Northerly winds will blow at 3 to 4 Beaufort, reaching locally 5 Beaufort in the Aegean. Temperatures will remain largely unchanged, reaching 16 to 18°C in most regions and up to 19°C in the west, southern Crete, and the Dodecanese.

Friday, March 13, will also begin with generally clear conditions. From midday, however, clouds will develop in the west and north, bringing the possibility of brief local showers in the northwest. Visibility may again be limited during the morning hours, mainly across the western and northern mainland. Winds will blow from the north, at 2 to 4 Beaufort in the west, 3 to 5 Beaufort in the east, and locally up to 6 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea. Temperatures will remain steady.

Visibility may be locally limited during the morning and evening hours, especially across continental areas. Winds will blow from the southwest in the west and from the north in the east at 3 to 5 Beaufort. Temperatures will not change significantly.

By Sunday, March 15, generally fair weather will prevail across most regions. However, scattered clouds may develop over the western and northern mainland, mainly in mountainous areas, and in Crete, with a chance of local showers. Visibility may again be reduced during the morning and evening, particularly inland. Northerly winds will blow at 2 to 4 Beaufort in the west, 3 to 5 Beaufort in the east, and locally up to 6 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea. Temperatures will remain at similar levels.
