Giorgos Tsagkarakis was arrested following a raid by Greece’s “FBI” at the warehouse of his gallery in Elliniko, where counterfeit paintings were discovered.
Officers from the Greek “FBI” carried out a raid today (March 20) at the warehouse of Tsagkarakis’ gallery in Elliniko.
After the search, police arrested the gallerist, who is now being taken to the Security Directorate.
Well-informed sources told protothema.gr that the police investigation uncovered forged paintings as well as a significant amount of cash.
According to reports, the investigation was triggered by a post the gallerist made on social media, announcing that he was selling a Gospel dating back to 1745, originating from Venice.
It should be noted that the Gospel itself is also being examined for authenticity.
