Staikouras: 211 new buses on Attica’s suburban lines

The first 130 buses have been received by the contracting consortium

Newsroom July 30 12:05

An additional important step in the renewal of the bus fleet in the capital’s urban transport system has been achieved with the completion of the international tender by OASA for the concession of transport work on 63 suburban bus routes, which will be served by 211 new buses.

Already, the first 130 buses have been received by the contracting consortium and the supply of the remaining vehicles is expected to be completed in the coming months. Their gradual integration into the suburban bus lines will begin in the end of August, starting with Eastern Attica.

The new depot of the contractor consortium, from which the buses serving the areas of East Attica will start, was visited today by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Staikouras, accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, responsible for Transport Mr. Vassilis Economou and the CEO of OASA Mr. Giorgos Spiliopoulos.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mr. Christos Staikouras, after inspecting the new vehicles, said:

.
“A very important international tender of OASA has been successfully completed. In the next period of time, 211 new buses will be on the roads of Eastern and Western Attica. And when I say the next period, I mean the next 8 months, starting in August, when the first, we estimate, 30 buses will be on the streets of Eastern Attica.

The total of thesewill serve 63 routes. All the buses are accessible to people with disabilities and it is very important that we are achieving and enhancing – even further – within the timeframes we have set, in cooperation with the private sector, the bus fleet and the daily life of citizens.

Thus, by the end of 2024, in addition to the 250 electric buses on the streets of Athens and Thessaloniki, we will have 211 new buses in Western and Eastern Attica, improving the daily lives of citizens, especially those in greatest need.

Warm congratulations to both OASA and its management and the private sector for the exceptional speed with which they have worked for the success of this project. Excellent buses, accessible to the whole of Greek society.”
