Mitsotakis: The average salary in Greece will be over 1,500 euros in 2027 – Watch video

Alexis Tsipras: 'Conductor of Novartis' - The new budget will include 12 additional tax cuts - The average salary in Greece will exceed €1,500 by 2027

Newsroom November 2 09:15

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis pledged to raise the minimum wage to €950 by 2027 during an interview with SKAI. In December, he also announced a special benefit for low-income pensioners with a “personal difference.”

Mitsotakis highlighted that the new budget will include 12 additional tax cuts, focusing particularly on easing the burden on the middle class. He clarified that VAT reduction is a lower priority for now, and emphasized the need to tackle tax evasion.

The Prime Minister projected that the average salary in Greece could surpass €1,500 by 2027, attributing this to a strong economy that will support better wages.

He also addressed climate crisis issues, especially following the recent deadly floods in Spain. Mitsotakis stressed the importance of strengthening Greece’s defenses against extreme weather linked to climate change. “We’ve built a culture of early warnings, which helps us prevent human losses,” he said, referring to the use of the 112 emergency alert system, which was not activated in Valencia. “I’d rather use 112 thousand times than risk a situation where we fail to alert citizens.”

Mitsotakis also underscored the need for flood protection. He announced that today he’ll meet with the Attica regional governor to discuss infrastructure fortification, particularly for the Kifissos River and other waterways, to ensure they are kept clear and flood-resistant. He confirmed that flood prevention planning is ongoing and interventions have already been made in the Attica basin.
