Shocking images emerge from Chios, where the massive wildfire has left behind widespread devastation across land and property. In northern Chios, fire intensity has significantly decreased as calmer winds have allowed ground and aerial crews to operate more effectively after many hours of relentless battle.

In the affected areas, scenes of burned homes, destroyed forests, and a suffocating atmosphere dominate. While conditions have improved, the island is still experiencing one of the worst natural disasters in its history.

Firefighters continue working to contain active hotspots in Kipouries, Fyta, and Kampia. Weather conditions are now in their favor, as winds have weakened considerably.

Since this morning, the operation has been reinforced with two firefighting planes and three helicopters providing crucial aerial support to contain the flames in critical areas.

More than 45 Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO) technicians and partner contractors are on the island, as the damage to the power grid is extensive—over 150 utility poles have been destroyed, and full restoration is expected to take several days.

Residents in Volissos, Potamia, Pispilounta, Chalandra, Afrodissia, Keramos, Agiasmata, Leptopoda, Egrigoros, Kourounia, Nenitouria, Agio Gala, Pirama, Parparia, Trypes, Melanios, Fyta, Kipouries, Spartounta, Managros, Limnos, Limnia, and Agia Markella continue to face serious hardships.

From today, additional HEDNO crews from across the country will arrive on the island, while those already on site remain on standby, awaiting the Fire Service’s clearance for safe access to the disaster zones.
