The 76-year-old in Kalamata remains in critical condition after being attacked by his own dog outdoors on Friday afternoon. According to relatives’ accounts, he had earlier tried to care for the dog using some kind of spray and attempted to give it a pill.

The man is currently intubated in the local hospital and will be transferred to KAT Hospital. His son expressed his shock over the incident: “I’m really shocked by what happened. We’ve had the dog for almost 10 years; I can’t understand what went wrong,” he said.

Meanwhile, video footage released by protothema.gr shows the critical moments before the Rottweiler attacked its owner in Kalamata. The 76-year-old can be seen approaching the dog to care for it, using a spray, and also attempting to give it a pill, which fell to the ground. In the new footage, the man is seen taking the dog out of an enclosed area, trying to spray it, and then putting it back inside the enclosure.

Passersby called the police as soon as they noticed the attack. Officers who arrived tried to free the man from the dog’s jaws, but the animal continued to bite him aggressively. One officer, seeing that the dog would not release the man, shot and killed the Rottweiler.
