Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, November 4, 2025, the elementary and middle schools in Zaros will reopen for in-person classes. Meanwhile, students in the elementary school and kindergarten in Vorizia will continue with distance learning until Friday. Classes in Vorizia are scheduled to resume in person on Monday, November 10.
Additionally, as officially announced by the Ministry of Education, Religion, and Sports, on Monday a specialized team of experienced child psychologists and social workers will be present at the schools in Vorizia and Zaros to provide support to students, educators, and families.
This team consists of four expert child psychologists from Athens and four social workers from the Department of Social Work at the Hellenic Mediterranean University of Crete. They were appointed by the department chair, Associate Professor Maria Papadaki, in collaboration with the university rector, Professor Nikolaos Katsarakis.
The specialists will offer Psychological First Aid, help strengthen the sense of safety within the educational community, and facilitate connections with long-term psychological care services where needed.
The decisions to reopen schools in the two areas were made in coordination with officials from Primary and Secondary Education and the Mayor of Faistos, Grigoris Nikolidakis. Earlier on Tuesday, November 4, a broad meeting was held at the Primary Education offices in Heraklion, Crete, with participation from all education sector leaders (Primary, Secondary, PYSPE, KEDASY).
