It all started on November 14th during a game against the Indiana Pacers at the Mortgage Matchup Center. As Sterling happily munched on his popcorn in his seat, the arena camera spotted him and projected his sweet little face onto the giant screen.
Completely unfazed, Sterling kept enjoying his snack until his dad pointed out that he was live on the big screen and encouraged him to wave. With a big smile, Sterling waved back, instantly melting hearts.
The clip quickly went viral, shared by both the Suns and the NBA on their social media, sparking smiles far beyond the arena.
In that game, the Suns cruised to an easy 133-98 victory.
Fast forward to November 22nd — Sterling visited the arena for just the second time in his life to watch the Suns face off against the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was a day he—and everyone around him—would never forget.
He kicked off the experience by getting a jersey of the team’s superstar Devin Booker, who wears number 1, plus a glove to celebrate every dunk. Then, Sterling headed down to the court to watch the warm-up up close.
Back in his seat, popcorn in hand, he even gave an adorable interview to the team’s media crew.
Sterling got a once-in-a-lifetime chance to be right on the court alongside players and coaches, and even sang the U.S. national anthem.
Just like before, the arena camera caught him enjoying his popcorn and soda, showing him again on the big screen—this time earning a huge round of applause from the crowd. Everyone knew who “The Popcorn Kid” was now!
The whole row where Sterling was seated received free popcorn coupons, courtesy of the Suns, turning the moment into a shared celebration.
Throughout all this, Sterling’s infectious smile never faded.
Nicknamed “The Popcorn Kid,” Sterling has become the team’s good luck charm. The Suns pulled off an incredible comeback in the final minute of the game, snatching a thrilling 114-113 win.
