Giorgos Mazonakis passed away at Elpis Hospital. He was just 54 years old, and the cause of death was cardiac arrest.

The call to the National Emergency Aid Centre (EKAB) was made from a private internal-medicine clinic in Kolonaki, where Giorgos Mazonakis had gone. According to the clinic, the singer had suffered cardiac arrest. An EKAB paramedic arrived at the scene by motorcycle and immediately began CPR.

Within a few minutes, he was picked up by an ambulance and taken to Elpis Hospital, which was the nearest hospital on duty. CPR continued in the Emergency Department, but the efforts were unsuccessful. The doctors confirmed his death.

Giorgos Mazonakis was one of the most popular singers of his generation. He was born in March 1972 in Nikaia and began his professional career in 1992, at the age of just 20.
