With the weather on our side for the Carnival parades and Koulouma: “It’s time to unwind,” says Kolydas

The bad weather is limited in the next hours in the eastern islands and the Dodecanese, while from Sunday of Halloween the weather improves significantly in most of the country

Newsroom February 21 08:32

After several days of rainfall, the summer-like scenery is gradually changing, offering some “breathing space” to those preparing for the Carnival parades and Koulouma celebrations. According to posts by meteorologists Giorgos Tsatrafyllias and Thodoris Kolydas, the unsettled weather will be confined in the coming hours to the eastern islands and the Dodecanese, gradually weakening. From Carnival Sunday onward, conditions are expected to improve significantly across most of the country.

Tsatrafyllias: “With the weather on our side for the Carnival parades and Koulouma…”

As Giorgos Tsatrafyllias noted in his post, the bad weather will persist for a few more hours in the eastern islands and the Dodecanese before gradually subsiding.

Conditions will then improve. Specifically, on Carnival Sunday there may be local showers in Evia, the Cyclades, Crete and the Peloponnese, but the phenomena will gradually ease, particularly in Crete. On Clean Monday (Koulouma), the weather is expected to be generally clear, with only a few isolated showers in Crete.

“At least for a week we will enjoy plenty of sunshine, with northerly winds keeping the atmosphere clear,” the meteorologist concluded.

Kolydas: “The time is coming to… unwind”

Thodoris Kolydas also forecasts a marked improvement in the coming days. In a Facebook post today, he stated that on Clean Monday only Crete is likely to see light, localized rain, while the rest of the country will experience generally clear weather, with a few intermittent clouds over eastern Central Greece, Evia, the Sporades and the Cyclades. Winds will blow from the north at 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally 6 to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean, and temperatures will rise slightly, mainly in western and northern areas.

On Tuesday, the weather will remain generally clear, with a few clouds in the west and south. From late afternoon, cloud cover will increase in Macedonia and Thrace, and by nightfall local showers—especially in Thrace—cannot be ruled out. Winds will shift to westerly at 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally 6 Beaufort in the south, while temperatures will edge slightly higher.

On Wednesday, Macedonia and Thrace will see periods of increased cloudiness with some local rain, while the rest of the country will remain mostly clear with limited cloud cover. In the northern Aegean, winds will blow from easterly directions at 4 to 6 Beaufort, and elsewhere from west-northwest at 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally 6 Beaufort in the south. Temperatures will dip slightly in eastern regions.

“From the middle of next week and for six to seven days, all indications suggest dry weather nationwide. The atmosphere will be drier, with northerly winds clearing the horizon and reducing humidity. It will be a favorable period for outdoor work, travel and activities. After the recent rains, it seems it will be time to step back outdoors,” the post concludes.
