European elections: 88% participation in the postal vote

According to information, more than 177,800 votes had been received by noon today

Newsroom June 7 05:18

177,177,000 votes had been received by the end of the day.

The integration of postal votes for Sunday’s European elections is reaching 88%, confirming expectations of a high turnout of those who registered to vote, for the first time, in this way.

According to reports, by midday today more than 177,800 votes had been received out of a total of 202,515 registered, and since the beginning of the week, when the deadline for mailing the special envelope expired, integration has increased by more than 32,000 votes.

Receipt of mailed envelopes will continue until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Interior Ministry officials said that participation is particularly high both among voters outside the country, where it stands at 83.5 percent, and in the case of those within the territory, where it exceeded 89.2 percent.

It is recalled that Greeks residing in countries such as Cambodia, Papua New Guinea, El Salvador, Kazakhstan and Ivory Coast, countries in which no polling station was established in the 2023 parliamentary elections due to the restrictions in force, have registered on the platform for participation in the elections by mail.

Therefore, the 9 June polls will be the first time that all Greeks abroad, regardless of their place of residence, will be able to vote without any restrictions.
