Mitsotakis for farmers: The door is open, the dialogue should take place with open roads

The Prime Minister referred to the need to create a climate of understanding - "The most extreme mobilisations can turn society against farmers who have justified demands"

Newsroom December 8 11:15

Mr. Mitsotakis also noted that “the most extreme forms of protest can turn society against farmers who have legitimate demands.” He referred to the need for farmers to have clear representation and specific requests, saying that the government seeks an atmosphere of cooperation, not blind or aimless demonstrations.

The Prime Minister made it clear that any solutions will be provided within the European framework, while indirectly criticizing previous governments. “We are not going to promise money we cannot justify, only to have Europe ask for it back later,” he emphasized.

Prioritizing the reform of OPEKEPE (the Greek Agricultural Payments Organization), he acknowledged existing delays but underlined that the reform is essential. “It is unacceptable for honest farmers to go unpaid because the system was built on rules from past decades,” he said.
