At least 60 Labour MPs in the UK are calling on Prime Minister Keir Starmer to resign, reflecting growing anger and frustration within the party following local elections in which Labour lost ground.

Rachel Taylor, MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth, became the 60th MP on Monday afternoon to call for the prime minister’s resignation, according to Sky News.

In a statement, she said she had watched Starmer’s speech earlier in the day but remained unconvinced.

“As the MP for North Warwickshire and Bedworth, it is my duty to reflect the fact that my constituents have lost confidence in the Prime Minister’s ability to deliver the change promised by the Labour Party at the last election. Therefore, with a very heavy heart, I call on Keir Starmer to announce a timetable for his departure.”

Taylor joins a growing list of MPs urging Starmer — less than two years after his landslide election victory — to step aside.

Meanwhile, three junior ministers have submitted their resignations to the government and also called on Starmer to step down.

The BBC notes that Starmer is facing pressure from two fronts within the party: the left and centre-left wing, as well as the right.
