Ukrainian intelligence agencies said Tuesday afternoon that they had hit the bridge connecting Russia and Crimea for the third time since the war began.
The Ukrainians even released a video showing an underwater explosion on one of the bridge’s main pillars.
Unsurprisingly, traffic on the bridge has been halted along its entire length, while Russian forces are on red alert.
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) announced that explosives with a force equivalent to 1,100 kilograms of TNT were used in the operation. The mission had been in preparation for months, caused “significant structural damage,” and left the bridge in a “critical condition,” according to preliminary assessments.
The head of the SBU, Vasyl Maliuk, stated that the bridge “remains a legitimate military target due to its use by Russian forces for logistical support,” adding that “Crimea is Ukraine” and warning that “any symbol or means of occupation will face consequences.”
